In the interest of generating social inclusion through sport, El Espartano has joined a Generación DIRECTV initiative that envisions soccer as an opportunity to change the lives of thousands of people.
DIRECTV Sports’ “El Otro Sueño” project attempts to turn sport into a tool for transformation and social inclusion. The campaign, which has been active for seventies years, supports projects that further social capital and sustainability.
El Espartano has participated in a number of efforts to improve Villa 21-24, located in the Barracas section of Buenos Aires. Specifically, it has installed state-of-the–art synthetic grass soccer fields whose materials and fibers yield a texture and appearance similar to real grass, while affording greater durability and weather resistance.
This project includes installing seats and supporting reforms on buildings and premises performed by NGOs and local foundations with the help of over 100 volunteers. The project also enjoys the support of the Housing and Social Inclusion Department of the City of Buenos Aires, which plans and carries out actions geared to urban inclusion through participatory projects for the creation and improvement of spaces in shantytowns, temporary housing facilities, and low-income housing complexes.
From April 6 to June 8, 2014, eight programs that tell the stories of these projects and those who have benefitted from the initiative will be aired on DIRECTV Sports.
